Went hiking for a long weeked with four buddies in Olympic National Park last weekend. Blue sky and sunny every day. Beautiful milky mountain rivers and streams – we swam briefly in them – so cold my feet cramped up! Hiked about 25 miles, up the Elwha trail. Very pretty scenery, super group of four guys.
I have an interesting relationship with one of them – we only see each other on these adventure trips, which we’ve been doing for probably fifteen years. Was great to catch up with him. One campsite was in a beautiful patch of grass, I walked around barefoot comfortably. Had a fire each night. Second night we had deer walk right through our camp, oblivious to us. And three deer slept not fifty feet from our tents. Terrific group dynamics.
Landed in Seattle late Thursday night, were up and out early friday, took a ferry across the sound and drove a couple hours to the park. Checked in with the Park Service and we were off! Packs were heavy but not too heavy. Great time!
